CHALLENGE

The husband wanted a rustic, Montana lodge feel, while the wife desired a clean, modern, timeless look with some industrial and rustic influences.  The home also needed to be pet and kid friendly, easy to keep clean and organized for a busy family of four.  A neutral color palette was desired, with color added minimally through accessories.

SOLUTION

In addition to developing the perfect floor plan, we specified durable, appropriate interior finishes that not only blended the rustic and modern concept in a way that worked for both the husband and the wife, but also will hold up to the wear and tear of everyday use with dogs and kids running around.  Modern stone and a linear gas fireplace for the great room was balanced by a more rustic wood burning, rough stone fireplace on the deck.  Creating a house where everything has a home was essential to keeping the house clean.  The large mudroom with built in cubbies and hooks was vital to the success of this project.  Having a dumping zone to accommodate sports bags, backpacks, coats, shoes, and the family calendar makes for better mornings getting the family off to school and work. Thoughtful planning also went into integrating both wired and wireless technology throughout the home. The Nest thermostat works with the Big Ass Fan to keep the air stirred and at the perfect temperature, even with the tall vaulted ceilings.  They both “talk” to the gas fireplace as well to keep the heating and cooling systems in check.
