CHALLENGE:
After more than 20 years in a beloved historic fire station, DS Studio had outgrown its space- both physically and creatively. The team needed an environment that better reflected the firm’s growth, integrated new technology, and supported the highly collaborative way we now work.
We envisioned a workplace that not only met our functional needs but also served as a living example of the environments we design for our clients: spaces that inspire creativity, encourage connection, and perform beautifully. The challenge was to create a dynamic, flexible studio within a realistic budget and timeline while maintaining our daily design operations.
SOLUTION:
Our new 5,481 SF studio redefines how we work, create, and collaborate. Designed as a living lab, the space allows us to test and showcase materials, lighting, acoustics, and spatial concepts in real time—giving clients a tangible proof of concept for the design strategies we recommend.
The expanded layout includes dedicated zones for teamwork, private focus, and client engagement, along with a fully integrated conference room equipped with the latest presentation technology. A greatly enlarged materials library- now the largest in Spokane- features controlled lighting in multiple color temperatures, providing designers with the ideal environment for material selection and color evaluation.
The move also brought an abundance of natural light, improved flow, and spaces that foster creativity and well-being. What began as a need for more square footage evolved into a holistic reimagining of how DS Studio designs, collaborates, and delivers exceptional environments for our clients.
